The Thunderbird client will need to set to accept OAuth2 authentication in order to receive emails from the Exchange servers.
- Launch Thunderbird
- In Mail Account Setup, enter the following:
- Name
- Do NOT enter your password on this login screen
- Click Continue
- Thunderbird will discover your server settings Protocol, Incoming, Outgoing, and Username server settings
- Click Done to confirm your account has been created
- You will be prompted to enter your password if you try to navigate to your mailbox. Click Cancel instead of entering it.
- Navigate to Account Settings
- In the Server Settings section, find Security Settings
- Select OAuth2 from the Authentication Method dropdown
- On the left panel, select Outgoing Server (SMTP)
- Select the Office365 (Microsoft) SMTP server and click edit on the right side
- Change the Authentication method to OAuth2 and click Ok

- Server Name: smtp.office365.com
- Port 587 (default)
- Connection Security: STARTTLS
- Authentication Method: OAuth2
- Username: username@wpi.edu
- Navigate to your inbox and authenticate using Microsoft's Multi-Factor Authentication.

Reconfigure Folder Mapping
We recommend configuring Thunderbird to use these same primary folders as Microsoft Exchange.
- Right-click on your Office 365 account and select Subscribe... from the drop down menu
- Place a check mark within the box next to each of these folders:
- Drafts
- Deleted Items
- Sent Items
- Click the Subscribe button
- Click Ok
- Right-click on your Office 365 account and select Settings... from the drop down menu
- Select Server Settings
- Under the "When I delete a message" section, select Move it to this folder and set the folder to Deleted Items
- In your Office 365 account, select Copies & Folders
- In the section "When sending messages, automatically place a copy in..." select Other and set it to the Sent Items option.
- Make sure the Drafts folder is selected under Drafts and Templates
- Click Ok
- Restart your Thunderbird client
