Below are some common Banner issues. If you are unable to resolve your issue after troubleshooting, please contact the service desk for assistance.
Off-Campus Access to Banner
From off-campus, the method of connecting to Banner depends how you are accessing it.
Banner Self-Service (bannerweb.wpi.edu) can be accessed using any browser.
Banner INB and Banner 9 can be accessed by performing one of the following prior to opening:
- Remote Desktop Connection to an on-campus computer or terminal server
- Connect to WPI VPN
ORA-1017: invalid username/password; logon denied.
Update Banner password to match WPI Windows account password (see related article for instructions).
ORA-28000: the account is locked
After a WPI account password reset, Banner Forms may produce this error whether the login attempt uses the new password or old password.
This can be caused by a scheduled job in an external system, such as Argos or Tableau, that is trying to connect using the old credentials. Common candidates = Argos and Tableau.
Close external applications or scheduled processes. Update your password in the external system to match your new WPI account password.
Bannerweb Login Error - Windows Account Does Not Exist
Windows Account Does Not Exist
It can take up to twenty-four hours for a new WPI account to be recognized by all WPI systems.
Please retry login to bannerweb.wpi.edu twenty-four hours after intial WPI account login. If the error persists after that time, please ensure that you have completed Self Service Password Reset for your new WPI account and are using your WPI username and the new password you created to login to bannerweb.wpi.edu.
Invalid Version of [FORM NAME]

If this error is received when attempting to open the form, the link to Banner may be incorrect. For example, it may be pointing to the TRNG database rather than PROD.
Open the form using the PROD database.
System Cannot Find the File Specified
deptfolder\CENIMIL\CRECMY0P.DAT (The system cannot find the file specified) ***RERIM20 completed with errors *** c:\oracle\product\12.1.0\client_1 prod
Network drive needs to be mapped.
frm-92103 Network Error
frm-92103 a network error or server failure has occurred and you will need to restart your application
Banner 9 Invalid Username
Invalid username/password, access denied
Close the tab or browser and try again.
SWAPROJ Unable to Save
SWAPROJ Unable to Save
There is a known error where the user is unable to save SWAPROJ when certain Project Types are entered. (This only affects certain project types, not all.)
Use Banner 8 to enter the project information.
Query only mode error
You are running with a query only role this function is not allowed
An open page with query access prevents updating on a second open second page with maintenance access.
Close all open pages in Banner and navigate again to the page where you are trying to make the update.
Specific Forms Require Banner 8
While Banner has transitioned to version 9, the following Banner forms are not in Banner 9. Please continue to use Banner 8 only for these customized forms until further notice:
