A Zoom vulnerability for Mac was disclosed on July 8, 2019. It allows any website to forcibly join a Mac user to a Zoom call, with their video camera activated, without the user's permission.


Mac users should take the precautions in "Details" to protect their privacy.

Action Needed

Download the latest version of Zoom from the Zoom Download site, and change the settings to disable the camera at the start of meetings.


Update Zoom to the latest version (version 4.4.55313.0714 or later)    

  • Download the latest release from the Zoom Download site linked above
  • Open your Zoom client from Applications, click on zoom.us in the top menu, click Check for Updates Zoom menu to check for updates
  • Set your webcam to be disabled by default
  • Open your Zoom client from Applications, click on Settings then choose Video Locate the Meetings area, check off the box next to Turn off my video when joining a meeting Zoom menu to turn off video For Future Meetings, Re-Enable Video

You will still have the ability to enable your video in future meetings when joining a web conference.
