As mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees within the United States must complete an I-9 form within the first three days after their hire date for any employment resulting in compensation. This applies to both residents and non-residents. The purpose of this law is to ensure that all new employees are authorized to work within the United States.
The I-9 form and process for WPI employees is structured into three separate sections and are described in more detail below.
Section 1:
The employee will login to Workday and complete Section 1 of the I-9 form no later than the first day of hire.
Section 2:
The employee must present original forms of ID to the Office of Talent & Inclusion no later than the third day after their hire date. For fully remote employees, the Office of Talent & Inclusion will coordinate with the employee to review alternative ways to complete the I-9 verification process. If the employee fails to comply with this requirement, an administrative termination will be completed.
Section 3:
After a review of the employees’ appropriate forms of ID, they will either be authorized or unauthorized for employment with WPI.
