Why?
This migration is necessary to move off of an old physical system, an outdated OS, and an old version of MySQL.
Impact
Web applications that access the webdb.wpi.edu system could be impacted while the migration is in progress. WPI IT staff and support personnel could see an interruption in data when the migration is in progress.The import time per database will vary based on the size of the database. Web applications and scheduled tasks could report back incomplete data to users.
Benefits
Once the migration is complete, the databases will be on a new virtual system and users will be able to easily manage virtual resources such as CPUs, and memory.
