Why?
Windows 11 will be made available by Microsoft on October 5, 2021. On this day, the free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs and PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase.
Impact
WPI Information Technology (IT) recommends not installing windows 11 at this time because there may be hardware and software incompatibility. This could include the VPN and academic software, which are critical as A Term comes to a close.
Details
Hardware, software, and network compatibility, including VPN, need to be evaluated by WPI IT as well as vendors.
- IT-managed computers will be prevented from upgrading pending further investigation and development.
- Personally-managed computers that are upgraded may have issues with software and services that have not yet been updated by vendors.
