New Employees are encouraged to attend New Employee Technology Orientation at the start of your employment, provided by Information Technology (IT). This is often scheduled through the Division of Talent & Inclusion - Human Resources or the hiring department. New Employees are also welcome to contact the IT Service Desk to schedule. During the session IT staff assist with testing access to storage and applications, and provide an introduction to IT Services. Careful attention to logins, access, safe computing practices, and data handling is an important responsibility for each member of WPI. Please review the Acceptable Use Policy applicable to all WPI account holders.
The Hub website is a centralized location where you can find helpful information about many WPI resources.
WPI offers a wide range of applications and resources, including but not limited to, Office 365, Workday, Canvas, eProjects, and Software Distribution. Office 365 will provide you with a wide range of Office applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams. Workday will enable you to complete tasks related to Human Resources, payroll, finance, and student data. Canvas is WPI's Learning Management System. eProjects is a centralized resource where student project opportunities are advertised. Banner supports services for admissions, financial aid, registration and academic history, and alumni.
All WPI academic and business systems and resources are available for use while off campus. Use of the VPN is recommended, and also required for many resources. Additional tools for remote communication and collaboration are provided.
WPI instructors are able to teach their courses from off campus using lecture capture software, the Canvas learning management system, and WPI licensed software.
IT provides various means of secure file storage to save, access and share WPI data. OneDrive provides easy access to cloud-based storage and can hold up to 1TB of data. Network drives and research drives are also available to store and share data.
New extensions can be requested for new employees. Voice messaging is provided for campus telephone extensions. Initialize your voicemail by setting a password and recording greetings. Voicemail can be checked from your desk phone or from off campus.
